Election Day

I’m not a very Stars and Stripes kind of girl. I can give you an antler and a stick star that wants to be a pentacle.

I believe in the principles of the Constitution, particularly in the Bill of Rights. In that way, I am a patriot.

As one of my friends pointed out recently, France is on its Fifth Republic. We need change, that’s clear, and perhaps one positive we can get out of the current political climate is that this need is underlined and given an exclamation point.

Perhaps we can go forward with a different version of the country, one that better rights the great wrongs from the nation’s beginning—slavery, and the genocide of the Native Americans—and that gives freedom and justice to all legally and economically. That cares about the natural world and does its best to prevent the coming global cataclysm of climate change and continued species die-off.

I have my fingers crossed for the country today.
